Rand Instruments was established in June 1989 and was operating as Rand Instruments CC up until March of 2000 when the company was upgraded to Rand Instruments Africa (Pty) Ltd. Rand Instruments Africa (Pty) Ltd is committed to the Design, Manufacture, Supply, Delivery, Installation and Commissioning to final acceptance stage of process Analyser systems and related equipment for the measurement of Liquids and Gasses. Since our inception, we have gone from strength to strength and have grown to a position of national standing due in no small part to our ability to finance Turnkey Analyser Projects for Analyser Systems both locally and internationally.

We are geared to provide the expertise demanded by our industry by the exacting disciplines of each of the industries in the South African and foreign markets.

At Rand Instruments, major emphasis is placed on design as a primary management activity. From small panel-mounted sample conditioning to large analyser and general instrument houses (shelters) with air conditioning or HVAC systems for use in hazardous areas. We assess the project specification and its duty requirements in liaison with the customer, and a well-planned and co-ordinated programme is initiated to ensure the project progresses smoothly with the least time and cost wastage, without sacrificing the most stringent international criteria.

In an environment such as ours, maintaining a Quality management System for manufacturing procedures conforming to the requirements of ISO 9001 Code of Practice is an essential corporate discipline..

Rand Instruments have Product Manufacturing Facilities which allows us to manufacture in-house designed products such as Filters, Pressure Regulators, Multi-directional Partial Scrubbers, Self Draining Condensate Traps (for removal of water under vacuum), Water Coolers, Phase Separators and various Flow assemblies for Temperature, pH, Conductivity and Dissolved Oxygen Sensors.

Apart from our own product offering we have agreements in place with major Analyser Suppliers to offer any other gas and Liquid products should this be a requirement of the project or preferred by the end user at no additional costs.

Typical Projects
The pictures below indicate typical variations in the work we have done in the past.
This picture directly below shows the HPE Analyser shelter at Sasol Secunda after completion. This analyser house was furnished with a Process Gas Chromatograph, a sixteen channel Gas Detector System for monitoring various points on the plant and a dual channel gas detector system to monitor the inside of the shelter for gas leaks. The shelter was fitted with an air conditioning and a forced ventilation system.

The picture above was taken at the fabrication stage of shelters for Sasol water plant.

The picture below shows an typical example of a small analyser system (utilising a canopy to house all the equipment) which was designed and manufactured for Bateman’s SA Horison Project. The system was manufactured to zone 2 requirements and featured a four channel process analyser measuring CO,CO2, H2 and Oxygen.
